14 Jun

Unite General Secretary Len McCluskey spoke at Glasgow’s May Day celebration. In a passionate speech, he defended workers in the both the public and private sectors against the savage cuts being implemented by the Conservative-Liberal coalition. He attacked the police for politically motivated policing that has restricted the right to protest, and praised the Glasgow Defence Campaign and UK Uncut. He said that the experience of the Middle East shows that when working people stand together they can change the world.

He quoted John MacLean’s famous words from his trial, accusing an economic system “dripping with blood from head to foot”.
