Scottish Ambulance Service update – Joint trade union statement

10 Jan

On Friday 6th January 2012 the Scottish Ambulance Service staff side notified the Service that its offer to resolve the ongoing rest period issue had been rejected by all three trade unions.  Following that notification management and staff side met again on Monday 9th January for productive discussions.

In order to consider a wider range of options, the Scottish Government has agreed to become formally involved in negotiations. These are complex issues with wide ranging implications and in order to facilitate these further talks the interim arrangements which were due to come to an end as of 0600 on Tuesday 10th January 2012 will be extended for a one week period to accommodate ongoing discussions throughout the week.

The arrangements as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure will continue to apply during the period with the amendment for the one week period the £100 payment will be made to any member of staff who has not commenced any of their rest periods within their pre-agreed rest period window.  For those staff allocated more than one rest period per shift the payment can only be made once per shift.
